Why Pay Attention to The Pantone Color of The Year?
Every year, a distinguished group of people select the Pantone color of the year. You may wonder, is it really necessary to pay attention to this color and its team of colors in their supportive roles? In my opinion, the answer is yes! Maybe that’s especially true this year because, as a little girl, my favorite crayon in that infamously special box of 64 Crayola crayons growing up was Periwinkle! And this year’s Pantone color of the year is… drum roll please…
There’s an interesting psychological piece that explains the selection of the Pantone colors of the year, and it goes back to how we are all feeling and what we are dealing with in our lives.
According to Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute; “The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer. Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.
When I look at Very Peri I see a playful, yet calm and energetic color. That’s about as juxtaposed as you can get in a description – but that’s what I love about Very Peri! Very Peri can meet you in your zen moments and your playful days at the beach. The color is refreshing on a hot day with its blue hues and can also take on the perfect cozy personality in front of a roaring fire.
To be open and honest, I fell in love with the color periwinkle at a young age because it was the same, but different from lavender. My mom’s favorite color was lavender – but as her daughter (and most daughters), I wanted to be different… and yet the same. Needless to say, this color is so much more to me than the 2022 Pantone Color of the Year. Anytime I see lavender or periwinkle, my heart softens and I am reminded of the amazing, incredibly strong, and fun woman I was blessed to call my mom. And yes, this color has been known to inspire an emotional purchase here and there … aka true retail therapy for me.
Try incorporating Very Peri into your wardrobe, home, or office and see how it impacts your day. Be ready to welcome a carefree confidence and cool curiosity while being filled with joy. I’ll take some of that!
Cheers,
Carrie Lyn
